a brief history of ab training
services
AB Training Services started out in
health and safety in 1998, this was a union health and safety representative
in the Civil Service.
Over the next 4 years as the safety rep I gained qualification in health and
safety through the TUC training Centre along with the general day to day
activities of a union health and safety rep I acquired both practical and
theory in all aspects of health and safety to level 3.
Moving into the private sector as a Centre Manager for Leisure Company. Here
I was able to not only implement health and safety policies and systems,
which were some what lacking, but also look at personal development by
gaining a trainer qualification from CIEH and run their courses but also
gain a trainer / assessor qualification in first aid.
Over the years I have run a number of CIEH and first aid training courses
for the leisure company and its staff, which has helped it to improve on
reducing its levels of reporting of accidents / incidents.
Staying with the leisure company on a part-time basis I moved back into the
Public Sector as a Health and Safety co-ordinator. Here I built up further
practical skills and knowledge not only through the work I did but through
doing the NVQ Level 4 Occupational Safety Health.
The work I did took me to Colleges, training providers both in the private
and public sector. The work involved assurance visits (audits) of their
safety systems and running workshops. It provided me with an insight into
the promoting of health and safety by these organisations, which I must say
was very good in some places and mostly good in others.
Chairing safety forums were organisations could share best practices and on
occasion had health and safety presentations by the local HSE Inspector, EHO,
Child Protection Officer and Fire Safety Officer.
I have carried out first aid assessments on behalf of another training
organisation over the last two years, which has included the Ipswich Town
Community Group and Park Royal.
I have provided in the past a consultancy service to a leisure company for
IIP status and achieved for it the Investors in People Award 2002. |
